6Wo - Mrs G Wood
I’m Gill Wood and I am Phase Leader in Y56. I have been teaching for 14 years and have taught in every year group, right from Nursery to Y6. I graduated from Liverpool John Moores University in 1994 with a degree in Literature and History. After travelling in Egypt, Thailand and Australia in the ‘90s I went back to Liverpool Hope University to gain my PGCE – and have never looked back! I love sharing travel stories with the children and inspiring them to explore their world. Twelve years later, I still love my job and relish the daily challenge of educating our children. I particularly enjoy planning and teaching Literacy – it’s wonderful to see the children develop such important skills. In my spare time I enjoy running and am working towards a half marathon. Who knows, one day I might even tackle a full marathon. I combine running with raising money for charity and to date have raised over £2000 for the Sheffield Children’s Hospital.
6M - Mr R Mirfin
Hello, my name is Russell Mirfin and I am a teacher in the year 6. I graduated from University way back in 1998 with a BA Hons in Documentary Production (Photography) from Humberside University and then did a PGCE in 2006 at the Southbank University in London. I have been a teacher for over seven years, beginning in London where I taught for five years before moving back to Sheffield after the birth of my little boy Dylan. I love teaching maths but I genuinely enjoy teaching all of the different subjects. The thing I most love about teaching is seeing the creativity and ideas that the children produce during lessons. Outside of school, I like taking my son to watch motor racing, playing the guitar, walking in the Peak District and spending time with my wife and cats – when I’m not marking!
6Wh - Mrs T Whitehouse
Hello, I'm Toni Whitehouse and I am a teacher in the year 6 team. I graduated from Sheffield Hallam University with a degree in Teaching and Learning (with QTS) having transferred from studying law to education. I have worked at Greenhill Primary School in a variety of roles for the last 6 years whilst both my children were pupils here. I felt inspired to become a teacher as a result of working alongside inspirational members of staff and seeing what a difference they make in the lives of children everyday. I particularly enjoy teaching literacy, grammar and art and love to see how proud my class are of themselves when they achieve something new.
When I'm not at school, I seem to spend all my time chasing after my two children (who are both at secondary school) and freezing on the sidelines of football pitches!
As a former pupil of Greenhill myself, I strongly believe in the values and ethos that he school upholds and I am so lucky that I get to spend everyday with our amazing children and staff.
