Governors
School governors are one of the country's largest voluntary groups
with around 345,000 at over 30,000 schools.
Categories of Governors
School governors are drawn from different parts of the community. This helps to ensure that the governing body has sufficient diversity of views and experience but does not mean that governors of a particular category "represent" that group on the governing body.
We are made up of different numbers and categories of governors.
- Parent governors - selected by election (or appointment if insufficient people stand for election) and drawn from parents and carers of children at the school.
- Staff governors - selected by election from teaching and support staff paid to work at the school
- Community governors - appointed by the governing body to represent community interests
- LEA governors - appointed by the Local Education Authority
Responsibilities
The governing body has a range of duties and powers and a general responsibility for the conduct of the school with a view to promoting high standards of educational achievement including setting targets for pupil achievement, managing the school's finances, making sure the curriculum is balanced and broadly based, appointing staff and reviewing staff performance and pay and many more.

New Organisation
We now have a strategic committee which consists of the chairs of the sub-committees, Lyn Burton, Julia Brown, the chair and vice chair of governors. We have also merged the old committees and now have 3 committees which are:
- Resources
- Parents, Children and Community
- Environment for Learning
Coffee Mornings
These operate on an informal ‘drop in’ principle and are hosted in the Dining Room in school. The room is accessed through the crush hall doors until 8.45am.
The coffee morning run every tuesday at 8.45am by Alexa Broomhead and has been very successful so far. There is usually a member of the management team and a governor present on most days. It is very relaxed and informal, so if you want to ask questions or just have a chat, please come along. Everyone is welcome and will be offered drinks and biscuits.
Contacting Governors
Governors can be contacted via school in a letter addressed to 'Chair of Governors'. This will be passed, unopened, to the chair.
If you wish contact a governor directly via email Simon Clement-Jones, chair of the parent & community sub-committee, can be contacted on simon.clement-jones@sheffield.gov.uk
