SEND and Inclusion
At Greenhill Primary, inclusion is at the heart of our school community and we value the achievements of all our pupils, including those with special educational needs and disabilities. Supporting those children whose needs are on-going throughout their school journey and those where some short term intervention can care for their needs.
We share the recognition that working in partnership with parents and specialised agencies is key to meeting the needs of all children and that parents understand their child best and their feeling and opinions are values and listened to.
We believe, that all children should feel safe and secure in an environment that gives the opportunity to strive and progress to their highest potential regardless of their barriers to learning. Allowing them to access a curriculum that develops them socially, emotionally and academically.
Within the classroom we use an inclusive approach with high expectations for all. Children receive quality first teaching where teachers and teaching assistants work together to assess and plan lessons that suitably meet the needs of all our pupils.
All our staff regularly monitor the progress of children’s academic and emotional progress through PITA (point in time assessment), Birmingham Toolkit and the Boxall profile. Whilst the majority of this support takes place through classroom provision, some may involve small group, one-to-one work or a specific intervention delivered by our Pastoral Team.
If your child is on the SEND register, they will have either a support plan, MyPlan or EHCP. These consist of outcomes that are specific to the child’s progress. Plans are reviewed three times a year, with the child’s parents/carers, class teacher and the SENCo.
As a school we work closely with a wide variety of external agencies to ensure that our children and families access the best possible support. For more information on these services please click the ‘Information for Parents’ tab to the right.
If you would like to discuss and concerns you have then please speak with your child’s class teacher or contact our Special Educational Needs Coordinator. Any complaints relating to special educational needs provision at Greenhill Primary should be directed to Our SENCo (Mrs Osborne) and will be dealt with in line with our Complaints Policy.
